How do I move my WhatsApp account from the OBO to the Shared hosting model?
Meta introduced a new shared hosting model for WhatsApp business numbers. Although the existing On-Behalf-Of (OBO) model remains supported (for now), Clickatell has decided to migrate all OBO WhatsApp numbers to the new shared hosting model on March 3rd, 2025.
What must I do?
Create a Facebook Business Management account if you don’t have one yet. Ensure you have admin access and can receive notifications. Find out how.
On March 3rd, 2025, Clickatell will initiate a transfer of ownership request for all clients still on the OBO model.
This will create a notification in your Facebook Business Manager account. To review and confirm this request, follow the steps below.
Once you've completed the steps below, your business will be moved to a shared hosting model, and the process is completed.
Transferal of Ownership
On March 3rd, 2025, Clickatell will initiate a transfer of ownership request.
To view this request:
Log in to Facebook Business Manager.
Go to Settings -> Requests -> Other requests
Under the Received tab, click Review next to the transfer request.
Follow the prompts until complete.
Confirm the permissions for Clickatell (your BSP) to continue managing your WhatsApp Business Account.
Once you have confirmed the permissions request, click Finish.
Your business will now be moved from the OBO to the shared model, and the process is completed.
No downtime is involved in this process. Note that the transfer of ownership is a one-way process and cannot be reversed. If you do not want to move to the shared model, please get in touch with our Support Team before March 3rd, 2025.
