What is a Sender ID?
A Sender ID (‘From’ address) is the name or number that identifies the sender of an SMS message.
When a message is delivered to a mobile phone, the recipient may see any one of the following 'From' address formats. This indicates who the message came from.
An international number such as +1234567890.
A local number.
A short code (a short number, usually five or six digits only).
An alphanumeric originator such as 'Message'.
‘From’ addresses differ from country to country, and carrier to carrier. This is because, in some countries, carriers block SMS messages sent from foreign numbers. To ensure delivery, Clickatell may attempt to change the Sender ID to a local or otherwise acceptable number. This value-added feature is offered on a best-effort basis as delivering your messages is our first priority.
Clickatell supports custom alphanumeric and numeric Sender IDs only on our legacy platform (Clickatell Developer’s Central), and not on our new generation portal. However, we support both short codes and long numbers as sender sources on both our legacy and new generation portal.
To add a Sender ID:
The steps below outline how to add a new Sender ID, so that it can be submitted for manual validation:
Log into your Clickatell Developer's Central account.
Click on 'Manage account'.
Select 'Manage sender ID'.
Click on 'Add sender ID'.
Input the required sender ID and provide motivation.
Click on 'Submit'.
Your Sender ID will then be submitted for manual validation, and we will action it as necessary within 24 hours. You can click on the 'Manage Sender IDs' link to keep track of your request. Once it says 'Approved' as a status, you will be able to use it.
Please consult our sender ID guide for more detail.
